Joel decided that yesterday he would FINALLY wear underwear. He has been in the process of using the potty for at least 3 months, but has wanted nothing to do with underwear. Curtis and I have both tried to put underwear on him, but he gets very upset, runs away, and just plain doesn't want them on! Yesterday, he ran to the closet and pulled on his "bouncey ball" underwear, as he called it (undies with various types of balls on them). He wore them all morning and only had two accidents. We even took a little adventure to the next town over and he was dry there and back. WOW! After lunch he did want his diaper back on, but it was a step!
This morning he did choose to put undies back on . . . we will see!!

Cade LOVES to Play!
Cade loves to set up his knights or soliders and play for hours. He has never really been a toy kid, but would much rather dress up and run like a wild man all over the house. Since his fifth birthday he has enjoyed playing with more action figure type toys.
He loves his plastic army men, tanks, and helicopters. He has a particular way he likes to have them set up. Whether he is in the sandbox, on the couch, or on the tv stand, he wants them in a particular manner.
His Playmobil Knights, Pirates, and Soilders are also a BIG favorite. He plays with these for at least 1-2 hours everyday. I love how these toys hold his attention, and allow his imagination to run wild (just what he needs). He likes to change up the helmets, weapons, and armor between the guys, but always knows which accessories and guys go together from the original box. It is amazing. He has always been particular, wanting things a certain way, but I definately see this attribute in him daily as he lines up his horses and has a reason why each man has what he has in his hands.
The big predator to Cade's cool set-ups is his little brother. Cade does not even like Joel to come near his toys when he has them set up. This does not make for calm happy times in our home, rather many moments of screaming and yelling. Hopefully we can learn to work together . . . SOMEDAY! As for now, I will continue to try to reason with both of them that sharing really is a good idea.
Cade decided he would take pictures of some of his army men one day, so enjoy this amateur photographer.

Snow . . . FINALLY!!
The snow has finally come!
Cade has been SO excited this last week to have snow on the ground! We have been out in the snow almost everday, trying to get our fix in before it is gone. Cade goes to the big window in our dining room daily to make sure it is still there. He asks a few times a day if the snow is going to be gone. It is so cute.
We spent the first morning of snow out walking, pulling the sled in the yard, and shoveling. The temperature wasn't too bad, and Cade, Joel, and I were out for over one and a half hours. Later that night, Cade went out with Curtis to shovel our widowed neighbor's drives and sidewalks. They were out for another hour and a half.
On Friday, Pop took Cade out for the afternoon to sled at his home, build a snow fort, and shovel. They were out for 2-3 hours. What a special time.
On Saturday, we got invited to our friends' home in the country to go sledding in their timber. What a GREAT time! We were out for an hour and a half, and I think Cade went up and down the hill 50+ times. Joel even walked up the hill himself a few times. Can he really be turning 3 this summer?
It is so fun to be out in the snow. The one negative of outside, is how cold the boys' hands get. I have not found good gloves for the boys, which are both waterproof and moveable. Joel doesn't recognize his fingers are cold till they are FROZEN. And at the point of frozen, comes the SCREAMS! I will definately we bargain shopping at the end of the winter season for some good gloves for the boys.
Yes, Joel is wearing a pink Cubs hat (his choice!!)

Home
Curtis and I went on our high school retreat the first weekend in January. The boys stayed with Tom and Bev in Wyanet. When we returned on Sunday, we were all very tired and Monday was a very grumpy day!! But before the grumpy came, there was the happy. While eating dinner Sunday night, Cade said, "I am so glad you guys came back. I love playing with you." It melted our hearts and made us smile. It is always so good to be back home. I love my home, my family, and just being. I hate schedules, deadlines, and being away from one another. Home with all of my boys is just right.
Strange Weather . . . A Memory
We have not enjoyed any snow yet this winter season. I know we have many days of winter to go, but it just has been very strange to not have any snow. Last week, the boys and I took a walk in our double stroller to visit run a couple of errands. On our way home we stopped at the baseball park and were going to play imaginary baseball on one of the fields. We started our game, but very quickly we were sinking in the mud on the field, so we transitioned to the grass in the outfield to play our game. I was the pitcher, Joel was my fielder, and Cade was the batter. We enjoyed the weather, the fun, and many big baseball hits! My mind tells me that we can not be outside playing, but that adventure to the park was so much fun. How much longer will I get to play imaginary baseball with my boys? The snow will come. And more years will go by. And my boys will grow up. I don't want it to happen.

Just a Day!
Happy New Year! We are coming down from our crazy Christmas, anniversary, and birthday week, so the last two days we have spent at home trying to get life in order again. The kids have gotten to play with their toys, I have gotten to do laundry and vaccuming and dishes. I often wonder how someone who works full time outside of the home has anytime to get anything done. I guess a lot just goes undone. I just don't know how people do it. I like all of my ducks in a row and things checked off my lists, but really a lot of my "ducks" don't have to be in a row (it is just how I prefer it). I love the gift of being at home with no one to really please but myself. I have always been a person with high expectations of me and working for someone other than me seems to put me into a panic of higher expectations. I hate being perfectionist. No fun! Just a little thought on me.
Today after a morning of playing at home and a bit of vaccuming we went out to church to play in the gym. At first Cade and I were playing basketball. I love to just run up and down the court dribbling with Cade. He goes on and on and on. Joel was dribbling a basketball with his feet - maybe he will be my soccer boy! But soon Cade thought the idea of soccer would be fun, so we started playing 1v1! Oh that was fun! I should never ever play soccer again, though, because it makes me miss it too much. It throws me into a slump of sadness. Those were the days. The days of nothingness in my mind but joy! I love the feel of the ball at my feet, the accuracy of my passes and shots, and the joy that is jumping in my heart when I am on the field. Thanks Cade and Joel for my 20 minutes of joy today! I love you and even if you never play soccer on a team, I will always love you.
